6 Towns Credit Union

Over 1,099 adults and over 358 children (April 2007) have signed up sofar to join the Credit Union to reduce the impact of loan sharks and high cost home credit lenders.

Questions and Answers:

What is the 6 Towns Credit Union (formerly Savings Club)?
6 Towns Credit Union is a community run financial co-operative, managed by volunteers living or working in Sandwell.

How do I join?
If you live in any of the six towns of Sandwell: Rowley Regis, Oldbury, Smethwick, Wednesbury, Tipton or West Bromwich - you can join. You can also join if you work in any of the six towns.

How easily can I withdraw my savings?
All withdrawals will be by cheque - you only need to call or visit the Credit Union office and request a withdrawal. You will be asked to complete a form and a cheque will be raised within three working days (not including the weekend).

How safe is my money?
Credit Unions are regulated by the Financial Services Authority to ensure the Board and other Volunteers make prudent decisions and take good care of the members money. Alongside the banks and building societies, the Financial Services Compensation Scheme also covers Credit Unions.
And of course, if you feel we have not dealt properly with your complaint, you can also turn to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
The Credit Union has taken out a Fidelity Bond insurance which means your savings are protected from theft. All deposits and withdrawals are made through the Co-operative Bank.

Who can join?
Anyone who lives or works in Sandwell. From 0 to 100+ years.

Is there a minimum amount I must save?
No. You can save as much or as little as you like, as often as you want. You can save from 50p to £5,000 - the choice is yours.
